Congressman Farenthold Meets with Leaders and Stakeholders from the Port of Corpus Christi

Press Release

Date: June 22, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Blake Farenthold (R-Texas) discussed the ongoing widening and deepening of the Port of Corpus Christi today with Port of Corpus Christi Executive Director John LaRue, Commission Chair Charlie Zahn, and representatives from the U.S. Army Corps. of Engineers and a number of companies that do business at the port.

"The Port of Corpus Christi, the nation's fourth largest port by tonnage, plays a critical role in importing and exporting crude oil," said Congressman Farenthold. "Widening and deepening the port will allow larger ships to access the port, which will expand the amount of energy products that can be both imported and exported."

The widening and deepening project is one of Rep. Farenthold's top priorities. The project is critical for future development and commerce at the port.

Port officials and business representatives strategized ways to ensure the project receives the necessary funding from the federal government.

The first shipment of U.S. crude oil in more than 40 years left the Port of Corpus Christi in December 2015. In 2016, the port was the number one crude oil exporter in the United States.
